  1. Some people make silly use of the word Dixieland, but Moten combined lessons from King Oliver with ragtime, and he was one of the few great ragtime pianists recorded. There is some lovely ragtime piano on some recordings by a white band recorded on the same day as some of the early 16 tracks by the Moten band, and I've often wondered whether Moten maybe sat in.Maybe the same piano and acoustic?
    Or was Johnny Riddick of the Arcadian Serenaders of St. Louis also a very good ragtime pianist?
